"Tendril is the night"

"When I start a piece I obviously have in my mind’s eye what I would like to make but the joy of pottery is that nothing ever turns out exactly the way you think it will. This “accident” in the process of making things was very well put in David Sylvester’s book (The Brutality of Fact) when he interviewed Francis Bacon about his work: Francis Bacon talked very coherently about this unknown, unexpected bizarre outcome where an umbrella might turn into a crow that might turn into a Pope!

A recent theme of mine has been creatures from under the sea, particularly octopus and their tendrils, and I am sure my fear of the sea helps these dark, scary images or flashbacks come out."
